The Holiday Inn Bristol Airport

When I (male Curious Traveller) had to visit Bristol on business recently, I searched Google for the closest hotel to Bristol Airport and found The Holiday Inn Bristol Airport to be that hotel. Although the hotel is actually three miles from the termional building, a shuttle service is provided by the hotel at a charge of £2.00 per person.

I very much enjoyed my stay at The Holiday Inn Bristol Airport. I found the staff extremely friendly, the food good and modestly priced and managed to find some pleasant company in the form of two fellow travellers to spend my evening with on the hotel terrace. I would recommend this hotel heartily to anyone staying in Bristol, particularly if they are arriving and leaving by air.

The Curious Traveller in the United Kingdom

In the couple of months or so that we have been posting to this blog and creating our mini websites regarding our travels, we have never done anything on the United Kingdom, the country in which we live. We have toured the United Kingdom extensively and therefore have a plethora of material upon which to write. We therefore decided that it was time to create at least something about the United Kingdom for our online portfolio.

Where better, therefore, to start than with the City of London, the capital city of the United Kingdom and the city with which most people associate the country.

Tower Bridge is one of London't most famous landmarks. It is named after the Tower of London, to which it stands adjacent and has spanned the River Thames since 1894. There are a number of interesting stories associated with Tower Bridge over the years and it has stood virtually unchanged while almost all around it has been totally revamped.

The Beautiful Whitewashed Villages of Andalucia, Spain

Andalucia is the most populous province in Spain and the second largest. As we have already seen with the Lakes of Malaga below, there is far more to it than first meets the eye.

The whitewashed villages of Andalucia have a great beauty in their own right. We visited the former Moorish village of Ojen, built almost on a serious of platforms on a hillside, and spent a wonderful couple of hours exploring it and admiring its sights and its views.

When most people think of Andalucia in the South of Spain, they will think of such as the Costa del Sol, sandy beaches and the blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea. There is a very different side to Andalucia, however, and venturing inland can introduce the curious traveller to scenic delights such as those afforded by the beautiful Lakes of Malaga.

Innsbruck and the Austrian Alps

We visited Innsbruck in Western Austria in July of 2007. We were fortunate that at that time, the weather was superb and the sun shone brightly on each of the days we were there.

Innsbruck is of course best known as a centre of Winter Sports but as we found out, there is plenty for the visitor to do during these warmer summer months.

The Alps in all their majesty tower over Innsbruck and it is a must for any visitor to take a cable car ride up to one of the peaks. The views from the summits are absolutely incredible on a clear day but you should be aware that regardless of how warm the day is at the foot of the mountain, up at the top it is going to be cold!

Benalmadena, Costa del Sol, Spain

The Spanish resort of Benalmadena is to be found on the South Coast of Spain, in the part of Andalucia known as the Costa del Sol. It is sandwiched between the two larger and perhaps better known resorts that are Torremolinos and Fuengirola.

Benalmadena is seen in the photo to the right from the summit of Mount Calamorro, which is reached courtesy of The Teleferico Cable Car and this proves to be an exciting day out for all the family. The views both during the fifteen minute cable car trip and all around from the summit are spectacular. There is also a restaurant/cafe to provide refreshment as you drink in the scenery and a Birds of Prey Show is provided, inclusive of the price of the ticket, weather permitting.

We stayed in the three-star Hotel Bali during our visit to Benalmadena and the Costa del Sol and found it to be both extremely accomodating and convenient for all the attractions which Benalmadena has to offer, including the beach, the magnificent marina, the bars and shops and even the railway station to take us onward to other places.
